New Aerial Photography

  • What kind of aerial photography do you do?
  • PAS flies high resolution vertical and oblique aerial photography. In most cases our photography is used for mapping purposes or for making orthophotos. Our obliques are often used for large scale enlargements.

  • What is the difference between oblique and vertical photography?
  • Oblique photography is looking at the ground at an angle. A high oblique will have the horizon in the photo while a low oblique will not. A vertical photograph is looking directly down from the aircraft to the ground.

  • How high do you fly your photography?
  • The altitude of the aircraft depends on the intended scale of the photography, the accuracy of any resulting map products, and the size of the area to be photographed. We operate our aircraft anywhere between 1200' and 22,000'.

  • How do I order aerial photography?

Customers may inquire about costs and scheduling new aerial photography by contacting our office and asking to speak to someone regarding acquiring new aerial photography. Our staff will help formulate you requirements and quote you a firm fixed price.

Historical Aerial Photography in our Gallery

  • What kind of historical aerial photography do you have available?
  • Our library of aerial photography dates back to the 1920's. It is dominated by photography of the San francisco Bay Region, but we do have photographic coverage of other areas in the U.S. The library is composed of two sections. One section deals with oblique photography of places and events in the Bay Area. A sample of these photos can be seen in the Gallery section of this site. The second section contains vertical stereo photography flown over the Bay Area every two to three years. This photography is better described in our Site Study section.

  • What is the background of the historical photographs?
  • Most of the historical photographs in our Gallery were produced by Clyde Sunderland between 1927 and 1972. The Clyde Sunderland collection of photography was purchased by this firm in 1972. Sunderland was a master photographer and his photographs appeared in many publications and exhibits including twice on the cover of Life Magazine.

  • How do I purchase historical photographs?
  • Historical photographs may be acquired directly through this site. Our photographs are produced and delivered by pictopia.com.
